All About Ather 450X

Electric two-wheelers are becoming increasingly popular in India. There are various EVs being offered – right from Chinese imports to made-in-India e-scooters. Ather Energy sets a perfect example. The Ather 450 offers good performance and an acceptable range while also looking smart and offering good quality. And as a result, the new 450X brings with it better performance figures, an improved battery range a few more features. We delve a little deeper to tell you what it’s all about.

The pricing

Buying the 450X up-front doesn’t allow you to have access to the free fast charging Ather Grid network. Subscription assures OTA updates, unlimited battery warranty and a fast charging network. The scooter is priced at Rs 99,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) and provides more performance than the standard 450.

Subscription plans

The performance and range you get fully depends on the subscription plan to choose. If you opt for the cheaper Plus subscription plan, the motor will have an output of 5.4kW and 22Nm of torque. The battery’s range decreases too while usable capacity reduces to 2.4kWh. Opt for the pricier Pro subscription plan, and you will get all the performance you need.

EV power

The Ather 450X is powered by a 3.3kW/6kW (continuous/peak) motor that makes 26Nm of torque and can reach a claimed top speed of 80kph, while the scooter can sprint from 0-40kph in just 3.3 seconds. The 450X is also lighter than the 450 at 108kgs.

The range has increased to 70kms in Ride mode, while in Eco mode, it can manage 85kms. However, the bigger lithium-ion battery that does duty on the 450X needs more charging time.

High-tech features

The updated instrument cluster is powered by a 1.3Ghz Snapdragon processor, and the operating system has now changed to Open Android from Linux. It also features a 7.0-inch screen, 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.2 and a side-stand sensor. The scooter is available in three colours: Grey, White and Mint.

The design

The 450X looks exactly like the 450 with a sharp-looking front apron and its tidily designed LED headlight. The exposed sub-frame looks cool too. Even the plastic panels around the front apron add to its striking appeal. The ‘X’ badge and the three new colours separate the 450X from the 450. It looks particularly attractive in matte grey with the yellow stripes on the rims. The quality, fit and finish too, are excellent.

Performance

There are three riding modes offered: X-Eco, Ride and Sport. Each mode results in better performance and acceleration. But the ‘Warp’ mode is definitely something to be experienced. The scooter surges ahead the moment you open the throttle, and the numbers on the speedo start doubling. This is one very responsive scooter and that can zip through crowded roads.  Also, grab the latest info on the new bikes, only at autoX.
